“That’s it guys, something is wrong and I am going to find out what it is, just keep watching the movie without me,” he sighed standing up, “And if you hear screaming and yelling don’t worry.”
They all nodded their heads and Brian walked the long journey to her room. He walked up the many stairs and all the way down the hall. He knocked on her door. He heard her turn down her Moffatt’s CD and finally answer.
“Who’s there?” she asked, her voice horse from singing so much.
“It’s Bri, can you please let me in?” he asked gently.
“Sorry Bri I just want to be alone.”
“Kayla no!” he said raising his voice, “If you don’t let me in I am knocking this door down!”
Finally she sat up. She straightened up her PJ’s and threw her hair in a pony tail, wiping away her tears as she opened the door. Brian pushed the door open a little more, and then walked in, locking it behind him and then taking her into his arms. He picked her up and just hugged her tightly as he laid her down on the bed and laid next to her.
“Why are you crying? Talk to me Kayla. By the way, you did a awesome job with the room,” he smiled.
“Brian I want to tell you the truth and all, I really do...but once I do you will look down on me, just like my mom did. I want to tell you why I am really sent away, but you will only hate me,” she cried burying her head in her pillow.
“No I won’t Kay Bear, you know I won’t. We are all worried, Leigh and I are, Kirsten and Kev are and so are Nick, AJ, and Howie. Now come on, spill it,” he urged as he wiped away her tears as she looked at him.
“Brian I look up to you in every way, and you taught me everything there is to know about. The fact that I messed up and ruined my life only makes me feel like I didn’t listen to you, and I hurt you. Brian I really didn’t mean to, I didn’t, honest, it wasn’t my fault!” she cried harder.
“What wasn’t your fault Kay, come on, tell me the whole story, start at the beginning.”
She looked at him, “Are you sure you want to hear this?” she asked.
“Positive.”
She just smiled slightly and then looked down at the comforter as she began.
“OK, well two months ago Aubrey and I were talking about...well...sex. You know, we are 17 and have been dating for three years. We have fooled around before but never had sex. I loved him and I knew our relationship was monogamous so I felt safe. A month ago we agreed together that we wanted to...have sex, that is. So...well...we did. It was SO beautiful Brian. I mean everything was perfect, Aub is that type of person, you know? He knows exactly how to treat me. And since we were both virgins, it was even more special,” she smiled thinking back.
Brian just looked at her and smiled, giving her a little hug, “That’s good for you Kayla, but something tells me that there is something that went wrong...”
“Yeah,” she sighed, tears beginning in the corners of her eyes, “See, Aub and I used a condom, but you know, what was the chance of him being such an asshole, you know? I wasn’t on the pill or anything, and well I was having sex, you have before, you know how you kinda like have this feeling come over you, you don’t exactly know what’s going on. Well at the last minute he took the condom off, and then made love to me. I hated him afterwards, he told me, which I was glad about, but to think that he was that selfish. To know that he did this to me, it was more then I could stand. I trusted him and he ruined my life...” she bellowed.
Brian wrapped his arms around her, “I always thought that Aub was a cool guy, but obviously I was wrong, what happened Kayla?”
A million things were running through Brian’s head, AIDS, STD’S, and even pregnancy.
“Well, I told my mom we broke up and she asked why. I lied to her Brian, that was my first mistake, I should have just told her the truth. Instead I just told her that we drifted. Well I missed my period, and I freaked out. I started having panic attacks, and just getting migraines more then once a day. I was so freaked out because I was trying to hide the fact that I might be pregnant. Finally my friend August went with me to the Gynecologist and sure enough...I was...well I am...I’m pregnant Brian,” she trailed off looking at his face to see his expression.
His face fell at first, disappointed in her, but he realized it wasn’t her that caused this, well it was, because she was young, but she wasn’t Aubrey.
“Kay Bear come here,” he said as she walked over to the window.
“NO! Let me finish Brian, don’t start buttering me up with the ‘I’m Sorry’ shit, not yet. Well once I knew for sure all my friends started acting different towards me, they ditched me. They all thought I was just trash. When I called Aub he told me that it wasn’t his problem because I dumped him, he said he had a new girlfriend and that he cared to much about her to worry about me. And although I told him it was his child, and I WAS and AM going to have his child, he refuses to talk to me. Finally, I had to tell me parents. That’s why I’m here. I told them just this Monday, before my dad left for business. My parents just started yelling at me, saying that I was a slut, a disgrace and I wasn’t there daughter. My dad just left telling my mom to get rid of me before he came back, and my mom was more then happy. So she sent me here with you all so you can deal with me. The fact his Brian, I have nowhere to go after this, that’s why I’m here for a year, then I will be 18 and I can live on my own. See Brian, look what I have done, my family hates me, I have no friends, the father of my child wants nothing of me, and you, you probably hate me too,” she cried looking at the stars. Brian got up and just wrapped his arms around her waist.
He just laid his chin on her shoulder and they looked out the window for a few minutes.
“I don’t hate you,” he finally said softly, she could tell he had been crying as much as she had. “I don’t think that you should have had sex, but I don’t hate you. This wasn’t what you wanted, and you tried to have safe sex. Aubrey is a dick, and to think that a man could actually want to leave a beautiful girl like you alone is awful and he deserves the whore he’s with, because he doesn’t deserve an angel like you. None of us are going to hate you, we are going to take care of you. If your parents are going to be like this then you just have to face it. Kay Bear, you did mess up, but your parents shouldn’t act the way they do. We will be your new family now, Leigh and Kirsten will take you to the doctor and us guys will help as much as we can. I love you Kay Bear, I won’t let you go through this alone, your my little sis, well cuz, but little sis all in the same,” he laughed.
She turned around and hugged him tight and whispered, “Thank you Bri Bri. I love you too, and I’m glad I have a family still, cause’ I could use one.”
He picked her up and laid her in her bed, pulling the covers up to her chin and kissing her nose.
“You get some sleep. I will tell the rest of the guys about this tonight and tomorrow we will figure out how we are going to work the rest of the time we have together, which may be a very long time, which I am looking forward to.”
“Me too,” she smiled.
He walked to the door.
“And Bri?” she asked.
“Yeah Kay?”
“Thanks again, thanks a lot.”
“Anytime Kay,” he smiled closing the door.
