“Mom obviously you did because you instantly woke us up, and for the record mom, before we get into the sex talk and embarrass Bre completely, we did nothing. We were just very VERY tired so we just went to bed there. And we just went to the festival thingy last night,” Taylor said as he ate a spoonful of his cereal.
“OK, Tay. I won’t get into anything,” Diana laughed rolling her eyes as she walked away. I had found out from Diana that my parents had left at 3:00am to begin packing. My parents weren’t the type of people to stay at someone’s house as they did. My family was more to themselves. Tay and I quickly finished our breakfast and began to walk over to my house which was only two houses down.
“We’ll keep it our little secret,” he said as we walked side by side, hand in hand to my house.
“What?” I asked.
“Last night. I told my mom cause’ she would only hound us if I didn’t tell her. But with my brothers and stuff, we don’t have to tell them,” he replied.
“Tay your odd,” I laughed looking at him, “first off, why would I tell them in the first place. Secondly, why would they care? Sometimes you really just crack me up,” I laughed. He quickly put his hands around my stomach and began tickling me. Sheiks of pure laughter came gushing out of me.
“Tay, Tay stop,” I laughed. He stopped and then kissed me sweetly on the cheek.
“Hi Taylor, Bre,” they said in unison.
“Hi,” Tay smiled.
“Hi Mom, Dad,” I mimicked. Tay and I held hands and smiled widely at the both of them.
“You to look so cute together. Let me get the camera. I need a picture of this,” my mom cooed.
“Stop Mom your embarrassing me,” I said looking away.
“Oh Bre. Nonsense. Let me just get the camera,” She said running into the house. My mom took a few quick pictures of us together and then put the camera on the ground and began to help my dad crush more boxes.
“Well what do you think of your new home?” my dad asked holding out his arm towards the house.
“God, your done already? In only four hours? That’s fast,” I smiled widely.
“Yeah, we are done. Well we bought all new furniture and had the men move it in. So it was pretty simple.”
“Cool. Then you don’t need our help right?”
“No, you guys can go have fun today,” she smiled.
“Thanks. Bye Mom. Bye Dad!” I yelled as we walked back down onto the sidewalk.
“Bye Sharon, Bill!” Tay yelled.
“Bye guys!” my parents waved.
“Hey Zac? Where’s Ike?” Tay asked closing the front door.
“Shh, he’s on the phone with Mercury,” Zac pointed to Ike sitting on a stool by the phone.
“What?!” Tay yelled madly.
“They called and said it was important, so he took the call,” Zac sighed.
“Of course. He always thinks he is better then us.” Tay gave Ike the evil stare as he talked on the phone.
“Cool this is working out better then I thought,” Zac smiled happily.
“Yeah,” Tay replied.
“Thank God we have more time with you guys,” I sighed.
“Your coming with us right?” Isaac asked.
“Yeah of course. But at least we have more time with you guys that isn’t so hectic,” Lynn laughed.
“I know exactly what you mean,” Ike moaned back.
“I got it!” I screeched.
“What?” Tay asked, “Got what?” Not believing that one of us finally thought of something.
“Well now that we have a whole week we can do something really fun and I have just the plan. My parents kept our house in Connecticut, furniture and all, so we can always go back there. How about the five of us go back to Connecticut for a little while. Just us, no adults. It will be so much fun. We can stay 3 or 4 days.”
“That sounds so cool,” Zac yelled.
“I’ve never been to Connecticut before, it would be fun,” Tay smiled.
“I’m going to stay here,” Ike sighed.
“We figured that Ike,” I smiled, “But I would love it if you would come. I owe it to you. You saved my relationship.”
“Yeah,” Lynn said. Ike started to laugh. “No really. I don’t want to go, but thanks anyway.”
“Why won’t you go Ike?” Zac asked.
“Because,” Isaac answered firmly.
“Listen Lynn and I are going to go ask my mom, bye!” I yelled as we both walked away. Tay ran up to us and thanked us for leaving. He knew something was up with Ike and he had to talk with him, so did Zac. They all had to talk alone, brother to brother to brother.
“I’m not deaf,” Isaac said madly.
“What?” Zac asked.
“Don’t try to hide it. You both know what you guys did!” he yelled.
“Ike is it about us telling the girls about you getting dumped by that girl?” Tay asked.
“Duh. Thanks, you guys are great brothers. You know fifteen minutes ago I was sitting here when you guys began rubbing it in my face and joking about it. You know it hurts. Yeah sure two weeks ago I was turned down by a girl, I don’t need you two cracking jokes about it,” he said sharply.
“Sorry,” Tay and Zac both said quietly not knowing they hurt their brother like they did.
“How could you?” he asked.
“Ike you saw how bored we get. We shouldn’t have said that. It was a stupid one liner, we just needed to say something to make conversation,” Tay frowned. Tension was all around them. Each of them felt queasy knowing that what they all said was mean.
“Why did you guys find it necessary to make a one liner about my personal life though?” Ike asked again. He knew he was making his brothers more upset this way and he wanted it.
“Isaac we don’t know. I guess we just thought you wouldn’t care. But we hurt you, we notice that. If we could go back and change it we would have never said that, we swear. Isaac please forgive us,” Zac begged.
“Yeah, I guess. You guys didn’t mean to,” Isaac sighed.
“We’re so sorry Ike. You don't know how sorry we are,” they both said.
“Yeah I do. Let’s just drop it. Brothers?” he asked.
“Brothers!” they all yelled.
“Mom I have an idea,” I began.
“What?” she asked putting down the People Magazine she was reading.
“See we are all bored so I thought, Tay, Lynn, Zac and I can stay at our old house in Connecticut for a few days, you know. Since they do have extra time off.”
“Girls. I know you may think it’s fine but it’s just you two and the two boys you like. I think you know where I am getting at.”
“Mom we are not going to have sex. God, I am 15 and Lynn is 13,” I said astonished that my Mom would even think that.
“But honey...” she began.
“Mom if you don’t think we are old enough and mature enough and responsible enough then just forget it. But I will have you know we are,” I stated getting pretty upset.
“Yeah, Sharon if it is to much of a hassle we don’t have to bother,” Lynn said.
“No, it’s just, Bre, Taylor is 15,” my mother stated as if I didn’t realize his age.
“Oh, OK. So Mom I guess because Taylor is 15 he is a devil? I mean because he’s 15 your worried,” I asked furiously, “Lynn, can you leave for a second so I can have a moment with my Mother alone?”
“Sure,” Lynn said as she quickly left the room closing the door quietly behind her. She felt so uncomfortable at the moment. She hated when Bre and her Mom fought. They never really did, but when they had their very scarce fights she left.
“Mom listen to me! Who cares how old Tay is? Just because he is 15 you think he controls me? Or do you just think he wants sex?!!” I yelled furiously. I couldn't believe my mother thought this horribly of Tay. I always thought she liked the idea of him and I dating. I didn’t understand.
“No but...” she began before I interrupted her again.
“Let me finish Mother!! I’ve been with Tay for a while now. We have never once thought about sex. Never mother. Don’t you judge!! Don’t you dare judge because he is nothing like what you are picturing him as. He is not a sex crazed druggy. And I don’t understand why you can’t even trust your own daughter. I thought we can trust each other Mom. Obviously not!!” I yelled louder then ever.
“Breanne Marie!!” she yelled, “Don’t you dare tell me what to think!! I do not think that Taylor is sex crazed. But he is a 15 year old boy, and you are a 14 year old girl. I know what goes on young lady. I do trust you!”
“UGH!! WHY CAN’T YOU JUST GET OVER THE AGE MOTHER!! WE ARE NOT STUPID!! MAYBE YOU HAD SEX WHEN YOU WERE 15 BUT I AM NOT ABOUT TO!!!”
“DON’T YOU DARE BRING UP MY PAST!!”
“OH OK, SO YOU CAN MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A PILE OF SHIT YET I CAN’T TALK ABOUT YOUR FUCKED UP PAST, SO JUST SHUT UP!!”
“Fine go! Go to Connecticut!” she said giving in. She felt so hurt inside. She never thought her daughter would say anything like that to her. She knew then that what Bre felt for Taylor was pure. Nothing was going to stop her.
“GOOD! BECAUSE I WOULDN’T GIVE A CRAP WHAT YOU SAID. I’M PACKING AND SLEEPING OVER TAY’S TONIGHT!” I said still yelling. My face was beat red and my throat hurt from yelling.
“No you aren’t young lady!!” my mom yelled.
“Watch me!” I yelled beginning to walk away with tears running down my face.
“I’ve planned a dinner for both families tonight. You are going!”
“Sure, with Tay!!” I yelled rubbing in the fact about Tay. I hurt inside not only because my mother didn’t trust me, or Tay. But mostly because I knew I hurt my mother. I knew that what I said was wrong and as I walked out of the room I regretted every word I said, but I couldn’t erase it. I already said it all, and I already hurt my Mother the most I ever had in my whole life time.
“Well?” she asked.
“Lynn. I hurt my mom so bad inside. I wish I never said any of the stuff I said to her in there. I take it all back,” I cried, “I mean she gave in and is letting me go, and I am going, because I think I need time away from her, but I don’t know how to apologize. I really blew it Lynn. I swore at her. I hurt her...big time.”
“It’s OK,” Lynn said giving me a hug, “Everything is going to be OK,” she sighed. We walked back to their house. When Taylor saw Bre walk in and the look on her face he knew something had happened. He immediately brought me to his room and sat me on his bed.
“Well?” he asked.
“I can go but I got in a big fight with my Mom. She didn’t trust either of us. She thought because of our ages we were going to immediately have sex. I swore at her Tay,” Tears began to stream down my face once again, “I mean I hurt her so bad, and in the process hurt myself. I mean when she showed no trust in us I just blew up. I which I could take back every word I said,” I cried loudly.
“It’s all right. I am right here. Nothing is going to happen, everything is going to be just fine,” he whispered. I continued crying. It felt good to rest in his arms and let all my anger out. I just wished I hadn’t taken it all out on my Mom.
“It almost seems that she thinks you control me. All she kept saying was that you were 15 and I was 14,” I cried.
“That’s all right. Let her think that, we know it’s not true and that’s what matters. Plus, all parents are protective like that,” he said soothingly.
“I know, I know,” I sighed. He held me tighter and I cried harder, letting all the anger creep out of me. But the pain from hurting my Mother like I did still sat at the bottom of my heart, weighing me down tremendously.
“I can’t believe I said that!” I belted out sorrowfully.
“It’s OK. I think your Mom knows what is going on and understands. I mean of course she is going to be hurt, I mean I wouldn’t lie to you, but she understands just the same. Do you want to spend the night here?” he offered.
“Yeah, is that OK?”
“Of course it is. Did your Mom care about Lynn and Zac?” he asked.
“No. I mean Lynn’s parents are there, so that is not a problem for her,” I sighed.
“True,” he sighed.
“How did your Mom take it?” I asked.
“She didn’t mind really. She is kind of used to it you know?”
“Yeah,” I sniffled.
“That bad? Can she go?”
“Yeah, it was horrible. I mean they were eating each other to pieces with words. She can go though. I just think her parents are too overprotective, it’s time they cut her some slack.” Zac didn’t exactly know what to say. He had never had to worry about his parents being to over protective. His parents were always used to him leaving. This conversation was new to him, just as were all the conversations Lynn and him shared. But deep down inside he kind of longed for his parents to be overprotective. He didn’t want all the slack he was given. He wanted to not be able to do things. But he loved his music and if he had to deal with a lot of slack then he would.
“Well this is great, everyone’s here,” Diana smiled.
Oh yeah. Just fine and dandy. This is the best. I should have told her, I thought to myself. After we decided what we were getting and the waiter took our orders I thought it might be best to put my revenge plane that I had thought of into action. Before doing so I thought about not doing it, I didn’t think it was necessary. In fact I knew it wasn’t. But I still was going to do it.
“Tay?” I asked in a loud whisper so the table could hear.
He turned to face me, “Yea?” he asked. In front of the whole table I kissed Taylor. It was much more then a tiny kiss. I wouldn’t let him pull away. I wanted to get my Mom angry and I knew that a passionate French kiss would do the trick. When Taylor finally was able to pull away he looked at me in the eyes. He smiled because he knew what I was doing. He wasn’t upset at me at all. He knew I was going to handle this in my own way and if this was how I wanted to then I would do it and he would support me. To my surprise my Mom did nothing she just ate her food and continued talking. I felt horrible inside and my stomach twisted into one-thousand knots. It wasn’t working at all as I planned. I knew exactly what she was doing, she was making me feel horrible, and it was working. After she finished her meal she got up to go to the bathroom. I finally figured out that she was going in there so she wouldn’t make a scene. I quickly swallowed my meal and walked to the bathroom, Not exactly knowing what to expect.
“I know what you did that for Breanne, to make me upset,” she sighed.
“Ding! Correct! What partying gifts do we have for this lovely lady!” I said sarcastically.
“Can you just listen to me for a minute without making me feel any less worthy of a mother?” my mom asked with hurt in her eyes. As I dried my hands I turned numb. What she said made me feel cold-hearted and it was then I realized I was.
“Breanne. I love you. You are my only daughter, my only child and I want to give you the world. I trust you. Bre, I want you to be happy, because when you are I am. The only reason I said that was for your safety. I don’t want anything to ever happen to you. Your my only teenage girl, and you will always be my little girl. Watching you grow up and turn into the beautiful young lady you are just makes me a little uneasy. I love watching you grow up, but as you grow, my worries grow to. I don’t ever want you to go away Bre, never. Your all I’ve got in this crazy world we call life. I trust Taylor and I couldn’t have asked you to find a better boy to be with. I love you,” she began to cry.
“Mom, I love you to! I am sorry I said all that stuff, and I am sorry I acted like such a baby. I knew that you only wanted me to be safe. I am so sorry. I love you mom. I only have one of you and I don’t ever want to leave you, or loose you, never,” I cried. We both ran into each others arms and hugged for what felt like ages not letting go. She kissed me over and over. When we pulled apart she held my arms and looked me in the eyes.
“You are going to have a great time in Connecticut. Now lets go out there and have a great night. I love you,” she smiled.
“Yeah, I love you to Mom.” At the moment I couldn’t stop saying I loved her. After what she has done for me and after what I had put her through I didn’t want to stop saying ‘I love you’ to her. For that brief moment I felt such a bond had been made between my Mom and I in that empty bathroom. She made me see how stupid and juvenile I was acting. She also made me see how much I loved having a Mother like her. At the same time I felt I made her see how much her ‘little’ girl was growing up.
