CHAPTER Fourteen-Disguises

“Well we entered Fairfield,” the cab driver said, “Is there anywhere special I could take you. It’s on me.”

“Do you know Fairfield well?” I asked.

“Why yes I live here actually,” he admitted.

“Well, I would like to visit my friends but they are in school. We will have to do that another time. Um, I don’t want you to know the exact location of the house either. How bout Marcellio’s deli?” I asked.

“Sure thing Miss,” he smiled.

“Thank you,” I smiled back.

* * *
We pulled up to the Deli and we all stepped out each having a duffel bag. As I made sure the cab was far out of sight I pointed down the road.

“We go down this road, turn, walk down another road, and then turn again. Then that leads to my neighborhood. It isn’t that far so lets get a move on.” They all agreed and we headed down the street, and to our luck. No one noticed they were with us, because we dressed them in coats and hats to hide their hair and faces. I hated having to do so, I felt so horrible. I also knew they hated to do it, but if they didn’t...they wouldn’t be able to do anything.

* * *

“Well this is it,” I said, “This is my house.” We all put our bags down on the grass.

“Wow,” Tay replied, “Its so cute and cozy. I love it!”

“Yeah it’s awesome,” Zac smiled.

“I knew you both would like it,” Lynn sighed.

“Well why are we standing out here? Let’s go in,” I said eagerly. I knew why I wanted to go in so bad. Since we moved I yearned badly for my room back. I loved my new house, I mean it was spacious and all, but nothing could compare to my old house. The smell, the look, the comfort. It was worn in, I was born in the living room, on the love seat and I was raised in this house. The memories all came back. It felt good to be home. I opened the door and looked around as everyone followed.

“Wow, it’s so cool. I love your furniture,” Tay smirked sitting down on the recliner.

“What about the rest of the house, I want to see it all!” Zac yelled.

“Calm down and while your at it sit the hell down Zac. Plus I just want to look at my room alone for a minute. It’s been awhile. Do you guys want a drink? My grandparents made sure we were stocked up on food,” I suggested.

“Sure,” they both said.

“Well what do you guys want, a Dr. Pepper and a Rootbeer, right?” I laughed.

“Yeah, if you have it,” Tay laughed back.

“Of course we do,” Lynn smiled. I quickly pulled to cold sodas out of the fridge and gave them to the thirsty boys in the living room. I grabbed Lynn’s hand and we both walked into my room. I quickly closed the door behind us.”

* * *

“Bre, this is bad,” Lynn sighed.

“Let me just check my answering machine...nothing,” I moaned.

“Are you listening to me?” Lynn asked getting annoyed that her best friend could care less about her problem.

I quickly sat near Lynn. “I know this is bad. Lynn you have been awfully quiet this whole trip...what is on your mind?” I asked.

“I am suppose to have the best time with Zac here. But all I can think about is Chris and all the fun stuff we used to do together before we broke up. I mean I love Zac and I thought I was so over Chris. But I guess not. The only thing is I want to be over Chris. I want Zac to be the only one that matters.”

“Lynn. You dumped Chris such a long time ago. You can’t let it do this to you. When you have someone like that you cannot let a jack-ass like Chris stand in your way. I won’t let it,” I said soothing, still not believing for a second that she could still actually like Chris.

“Your right. Thanks Bre. I am going to forget about this whole thing,” she said sternly.

“Good. Ugh! I can’t believe I am home. My bed, my computer, my posters, my ROOM!!” I yelled.

“Yeah, isn’t it great to be home?” she asked.

“Sure is,” I sighed falling onto my bed.

* * *

“OK, Tay, Zac. It’s time to see the rest of my house and where you will be sleeping,” I grinned. They both shot straight up eager to see what the rest of it looked like.

“Yes!!” Zac shouted.

“God Zac. Calm down, it’s a freakin’ house,” Tay once again moaned to Zac.

“Here’s the kitchen,” I began. They all watched closely as I pointed everything out. As we walked into the hallway I quickly shut my door and began to follow them straight down the hall.

“Hey who’s room is that?” Tay asked.

“Mine. I want to save it for last,” I said.

“Oh OK.” “Now this is the extra bedroom. It has bunk-beds because my cousins always slept over in this room. Zac and Tay you can share this room. It has Nintendo 64, so you guys can play that all you want. Oh yeah and right here,” I began walking back down the hall in the opposite direction again, “Is the bathroom. It also has a washer and drier, so at night make sure to shut the door or you will hear a lot of noise.” They all continued to listen constantly and look at everything closely as I showed it to them.

“Now across the hall from the Tay and Zac’s room Lynn is where you are going to be. It’s my parents room. Also attached to it is a bathroom, but it doesn’t have a shower. Well I think that covers it,” I said clasping my hands together.

“Not so fast missy,” Zac said slyly, “You forgot your room.”

“Oh yeah,” I remembered. Zac especially walked eagerly to my room door. As I flung the door open the boys were astonished. The whole room was covered with their faces. Not a trace of wall showed.

“Wow,” they both said in awe as they walked around admiring themselves.

“Neither of us have ever seen a fans room. This is amazing,” Tay smiled.

“Thanks. It took me forever to do. But I love it.”

“I love it to,” he said.

* * *
Lynn and Zac sat in Zac’s room playing Nintendo 64 while Tay and I sat in my room not doing much, as we always did. He was laying on my bed while I sat on my computer chair staring at him. Neither of us said a word we just sat there in silence.

“OK enough of the silence,” Tay began, “I want to know what you and Lynn were talking about in here.”

“Tay. I really don’t think it pertains to you.” I said turning on the TV. He quickly got up and turned it off, “Please,” he begged.

“Why do you want to know so bad?” I asked, looking at him lay back down on the bed. I was scared he thought that it was about him and I.

“Because I think I know what it was about. I know the look in someone’s eyes when they are hiding something, or when they aren’t being totally truthful. Lynn had that look the whole way up here, but when you guys left the room it was wiped off her face completely. I am just glad that Zac can’t tell, because if he could I am scared he is going to be crushed by her. Now what’s going on?” I was surprised that Tay could tell so much. I mean he hit the nail right on the head. It was amazing that he could tell something like that. It became apparent to me at that moment that our relationship was going to be a truthful one. I was glad, because from the start I wanted no lying between us and I didn’t want anything to be hidden. But with a boy like Taylor nothing could.

“Your right,” I said quietly, “and wrong.”

“What do you mean?” he asked being more vague.

“Lynn was hiding something. But it is not at all like you said. It would nor could ever hurt Zac in anyway. She needed to tell someone other then Zac how she was feeling, and she needed advice. Once I gave her the advice she needed she felt totally secure and happy.”

“What was she hiding?” he asked again.

“Well before she met Zac and before we went to find you guys, Lynn had a boyfriend, named Chris. They had broken up way before we went to find you guys, like a month before. When we left it totally left her mind, she never thought about it. Now that we are home though all the memories began to come back, you know?” Tay shook his head to show that he was following what I was saying.

“Well I told her that she can’t let a jack-ass like Chris stand in her way from one of the best things that would ever happen to her. After we had talked about it a little more she sternly told herself that she loved Zac and would forget about Chris. Now Tay I know that people don’t just forget about past flings, but your brother is different, as are you. Somehow you make the past melt away and only the present seems to matter. So as I look at it, and should you, I think that Lynn and Zac will never break each others hearts...never. What I am trying to say is, don’t worry about it.”

“Your right. Plus, I have to learn to stop worrying about my brother as much as I do.”

“You do have to cut him some slack.”

“Yeah. I am not going to worry about it, plus. It’s there situation, not mine.”

“Tay, there is no situation.”

“I know. Are you hungry?” he asked.

“Yeah, actually I am,” I said smiling. I didn’t want to start a fight with Taylor, nor did I want to talk about my best friend and her boyfriend to him anymore. I decided just to move along, and pretend that we never had the talk, as did he.

* * *
“So why did you and Bre go into her room before anyway?” he asked. Lynn froze up inside. She just continued playing the game trying not to show the tension rising up inside of her, “Oh nothing. You know, girl stuff,” she said covering it up.

“Oh. Well wanna go see if Tay and Bre want to get something to eat. I am hungry?”

“Yeah I am starving.” They quickly put away the controllers and opened the door to go find Tay and Bre. As they walked down the hall we did also and we ran into each other in the hall.

“Wanna get something to eat?” Tay and Zac asked the exact same time. We all began to laugh out loud.

“OK!” we all yelled at once.

“Just let me lock everything up and get the keys!” I yelled to them as they began walking out the door. Suddenly the phone rang and I rushed to pick it up. They froze in their positions and walked back inside to see who it was.

“Hello? Hold On.” I said, “Lynn telephone, it's your parental units!” I laughed.

She quickly grabbed the phone from my hands, “Hello? Oh hi Mom!” she began. Just as Zac was about to take the phone from Lynn’s hands and smash it to tiny pieces because he was so hungry, she hung up.

“They just wanted to know what was going on tomorrow. They said they will pick us up and we will have dinner at my house.”

“Great...now lets go eat!! Hup 2,3,4!!” Zac yelled. We ended up having to walk to lunch. It wasn’t that far. I mean what was the use for paying for a cab. Tay and Zac forbid to wear the glasses, hats or coats this time. They didn’t want to have to hide. If people came up to us, they did. But we were halfway there and there was no sign of mass confusion.

“You know,” Tay began, “Zac and I, well we haven’t been able to just walk down the street without getting mobbed by fans like this. I mean this is like unreal, I mean I love this, not that we don’t love our fans but you know every once in a while we need our own time.

“The pizza joint is right here,” I said pointing to the building we walked in front of us. We walked in and the smell was great. My family had always gotten pizza from this place and to be inside of it again was just great. I loved being home. We walked up to the counter and Tay began to order.

“We need one large pizza and four large cokes please,” Tay said quietly.

“For here or to go?” the cashier asked.

“Well we will eat it here but bring it to us in the box just in case,” Tay said blushing. The waitress looking very confused agreed and took Tay’s money. We all sat down at a table in the far corner. A few minutes later the waitress brought out our pizza. Before we could even say ‘Thank You’ she instantly screeched.

“Oh My God, I didn’t realize it at first but you are Hanson!!” she yelled.

“Yeah,” Tay and Zac said being a little embarrassed.

“My daughters love you! Girls come out here. Hanson is here!!” she yelled loudly. Two screaming thirteen year old girls came gushing out of the back room and to our table.

“Let’s get out of here NOW!!!” Tay yelled as he grabbed the pizza and took off with Zac. We quickly ran out following them. After we got a good two streets away and realized they weren’t following us we began to walk.

“Food on the go,” Tay laughed, “You get used to it.” We all laughed the rest of the walk home.

* * *
When we got home it was 4:00pm and we decided the cold pizza would be our dinner since the earlier unexpected madness from the pizza parlor.

“Ahh, nothing like cold pizza for dinner,” Zac moaned.

“Oh Zac, don’t be picky. Just heat it up,” Tay demanded.

“Oh all right,” Zac moaned once again. Lynn and I didn’t even pay attention the bicker they were having. We were to busy being mesmerized by their new video for ‘I Will Come To You’ on MTV.

“Hey look it’s you guys!” I smiled.

Tay quickly threw down his plate and ran up to the TV and began kissing it.

“OH!! IT’S HANSON!!! OH MY GOD!!! I LOVE YOU!!” Tay acted.

I had never seen that side of Tay before...but I loved it. I mean he was totally different then how he acted elsewhere.

“Turn it off!!” Zac yelled grabbing the remo, “Come on let’s go do something else. I’m done,” Zac said impatiently.

“No Zac. Just shut up and sit down. No one else is done. How can you eat six pieces of pizza in five minutes?!” Tay yelled and asked at the same time, not expecting the answer he got.

“Well it all just comes naturally I guess. You see it’s like this...all I do is...” he laughed as he grabbed Lynn’s pizza out of her hand and smothered it all over his face. Lynn began to laugh very hard. So hard that the soda that was in her mouth flew out and went all over Zac. Suddenly her soda can went flying and fell upside down in Zac’s lap.

“Oh My God!!” Lynn yelled, “I am so sorry.” Tay and I fell off the couch and rolled around on the ground laughing our heads off.

“Great, just great. Now my wonderful and beautiful yellow Doc’s are a dinner. Complete with the drink,” Zac laughed.

“Ha ha!!” Tay laughed and said sarcastically.

“Hey Lynn. Come here!” Zac laughed.

Lynn walked up to him cautiously. He grabbed her tight and gave her a huge kiss, which smothered her in pizza sauce and coke.

“Oh, thanks so much for sharing that,” Lynn smiled.

“No problem, anytime, anytime. You know I think I better go change and wash my face.”

“You?! You just covered me in it. Though I must admit that kiss was very tasty!” she laughed.

“Before you two do anything you are helping Tay and I clean this mess up!” I demanded.

We all went into the kitchen and grabbed the cleaning supplies. After a half an hour of scrubbing all the stains came up. We put our dishes in the dishwasher.

“There now. That looks much better, now lets go change,” I smiled contently as I brushed my hands together.

* * *
Like one of the first nights we were together we sat in the living room debating over which movie to watch. Lynn and Zac really wanted to watch ‘The Lost World’ but Tay and I were stuck on ‘Men In Black.’

“That’s it!! I yelled, “Tay and I will watch ‘Men In Black’ in here and you and Zac can watch your movie in Lynn’s room!” They all gave me odd looks. They could all tell I was becoming very pissed.

“God Bre! You are so mean, I would be glad to leave!” Lynn yelled. Lynn and Zac began to walk out of the room. I grabbed their arms.

“Listen. I’m sorry I just think it’s stupid that we are fighting over movies.” We all agreed and Lynn and Zac went to Lynn’s.

“Did you see this movie yet Bre?” Tay asked.

“No...but I heard it was really good.”

“Yeah, same here,” he replied.

“Hey! Why don’t you get some drinks and popcorn, while I get some pillows and a blanket so we can get comfy on the ground. I think I might need to cuddle,” I smiled.

“I really like that idea,” he smiled back. I went to grab some pillows and the blanket out of my room, when Zac and Lynn happened to smell the popcorn. Chaos began.

“POPCORN!!” they both yelled at the top of their lungs. They both jumped out of the big bed and began to run through the hall. I quickly ducked into the bathroom so I wouldn’t get stampeded on.

“Hungry for popcorn are we?” Tay asked.

“Yes! Much so!” Zac yelled again. I finished setting up our little bed on the floor and walked into the kitchen. I noticed gigantic bowls of popcorn and 4 sodas.

“Let’s go Lynn. The movie is probably already started. I forgot to stop the tape,” Zac smiled.

“You dummy come on,” Lynn said grabbing the popcorn and sodas.

“Aw, what a nice little place to cuddle,” Zac laughed.

Tay and I laid down and started the tape. The whole way through there was a mix of laughing and kissing non stop. The last thing I remembered was a deep French kiss and him stroking my hair.
