CHAPTER Twenty-I'll Be Here

“Wake up sunshine,” I whispered over to Tay.

“Good Morning,” he said stretching out his arms and placing one tightly around me. I cuddled closely up next to him.

“I am SO sorry about last night Bre, and yesterday. I didn’t mean to hurt you, please, I am not a mean guy. I just was so confused and upset that I couldn’t see past all my anger, to tell that I was really hurting you. I am so sorry,” he said softly.

“Tay. That’s OK, I understand, just promise you won’t spaz out like that again!” I laughed. He laughed that.

“That I can promise!”

“Good! My mom wants to leave right away, so lets get going!”

“God she’s pushy,” he whined.

“Oh, thanks,” I said sarcastically hitting him with a pillow. He instantly hit me back and with two hits it turned into one huge pillow fight. In the end we both laughed.

* * *
We were in the car on our way to Vermont.

“You fall, I fall, literally,” he whispered to me in a whisper. I began to laugh so hard I began to cry.

I put my head on his shoulder. God, was I tired. I was up all night, making sure he was all right. I couldn’t stop crying last night, because my love of my life tired killing himself. Also because inside I knew I couldn't wait to call Nick, when I didn't know, but I wanted to. It scared me and shook me up so much. I didn’t know he felt the way he did. I was still shaken as I laughed, yet he seemed to be fine, as if nothing happened. Ever since we woke up this morning, all he did was apologize for hurting me, he didn’t talk about the suicide in general, just that he hurt me. I figured that if he didn’t want to talk about it, that was only best. I was afraid that if I brought it up, it might scare him, and that was the last thing we needed, so I just let it go, but knew that if he needed me, I was very willing to talk. I soon fell asleep.

* * *
“Lizzy your like jumping out of your seat, calm down,” Ike laughed.

“I’m just SO excited. I haven’t skied in a while.”

“Well I suck, so...”

“So what? I suck at singing!” she laughed loudly. Ike laughed back.

“I bet you have a beautiful voice,” he beamed.

“Aw, thanks Ikey,” she said kissing him lightly and putting on her head phones.

* * *
“Zac, why aren’t you, your hyper self today?” Lynn asked turning towards Zac.

“I don't know, I guess last night just shook me up,” he said looking straight ahead at the long winding road ahead of them.

“It’s OK, Zacky. Hey you know we haven’t gone to the movies together yet. When we get up here do you want to go? We can ski one day and go see a movie the other.”

“That sounds really great,” he said steering his vision towards her.

“Hey can we come?” Elizabeth asked, “What are you seeing?”

“Titanic, Zac and I have yet to see it. Sure you can come. What about you Tay, what about you two?”

“Well, we already saw it, but sure.”

“Great,” Elizabeth smiled. Tay shook me gently.

“Hey cutie, wake up,” he said softly.

“Yeah?” I asked opening my eyes slowly.

“Do you want to see Titanic with us Tuesday?” he asked.

I looked at Tay deeply, “Of course,” I smiled.

“Sharon do you mind if we...” Elizabeth began.

“Not at all. I think you guys need to spend time together,” she smiled back.

“Thanks,” we all answered.

I quickly replaced my head on Tay’s shoulder and instantly fell asleep once again. Tay laughed slightly at the sleeping girl on his shoulder. He kissed Bre on her head and lightly brushed his hand her cheek, “ I love you baby,” he whispered.

* * *
We pulled up to the rented house we would stay at.

“Wow, this is beautiful!” Zac yelled.

“Well lets go in. Make sure to grab some bags,” my dad smiled.

He unlocked the door and we walked in. It was amazing. In front of us was a beautiful huge dark wooden staircase. On the bottom floor to the left was the living room. There were two couches a TV fireplace and anything you could imagine. If you kept walking behind the staircase there was the master bedroom, which was also beautiful. To the right of the staircase was the kitchen. The table and dining room was attached to the kitchen. Upstairs their were three bedrooms with a queen sized bed in each, which was perfect for us.

“Wow, mom...this is beautiful. Dad, thanks!” I yelled.

“Anything for our daughter...now go have fun!” my dad laughed. I hugged them both and we ran upstairs. We quickly picked rooms, which didn’t really matter since they were all mostly the same. After we so-called “un-packed” Elizabeth and I went into Lynn and Zac’s room.

“Zac, um, can you please leave for a sec?” I asked.

“Sure,” he said leaving the room.

Elizabeth and I proceeded to sit on the bed near Lynn.

“Bre this is the best! At anytime we can throw on our skies and go! We have all day passes for two days! Since we are on the mountain it rocks even more! Thank you SO much!” Elizabeth screeched. She gave me a big hug.

“No problem. But Lynn we have to talk.”

“Yeah, I know...” she trailed off.

“Are you REALLY pregnant?” I asked, “Cause’ I mean it doesn’t seem like it. But you never talked to my mom, and I think you should have, I mean, was that all a joke?”

“No! How could you think that was a joke? But to be honest I think that test was wrong. I mean, right now don’t you think I would feel sick or at least LOOK like I am gaining weight for carrying a child? But see I’m not, so I know it’s wrong,” she said firmly.

“Lynn not necessarily. All women can have certain affects happen at certain times. I mean, some women may start already gaining weight now, or getting morning sickness, while others might take longer,” I stated.

“Bre’s right Lynn,” Elizabeth sighed.

“Guys, this is my body, and I have this strong feeling. You guys can’t fill my head with facts, I know what I know,” she said firmly.

“Fine, then get the boys in here and tell them and forget telling our parents,” I sighed, knowing that I couldn’t change Lynn’s mind.

“Good idea, Boys come here!” she yelled. They all walked in her room and sat down on the bed.

“I am not pregnant. If I were pregnant I would have had signs. It doesn’t even feel like I am carrying a baby.” The boys looked at her. Since they didn’t know much about the topic, they were all satisfied with Lynn’s answer. Relief came upon Zac’s face. He believed Lynn and every word she said.

“So lets not talk about it anymore, or tell any adult, or anything,” she smiled.

“I love you Lynn,” Zac smiled.

Everyone began to laugh but me and everyone had relief written on their faces, but me.

“That’s why I wasn’t myself today Lynn. I was worried,” Zac sighed.

“Oh Zacky, please. It’s all done with, don’t worry anymore.”

“I’m not...see?” he said doing a cartwheel. We all laughed once again because of Zac’s actions.

* * *
Everyone left Zac and Lynn’s room, but them.

“Lynn, I don’t want this to mean or anything, but I am so glad you are not pregnant,” he smiled.

“Zacky I am so happy too. If I had this child I would have one hell of a time raising it!” They both laughed.

“Can you just promise me we will be more careful Zac?” she asked.

“I promise,” he sighed.

* * *
We were in the middle of our room holding each other tight.

“What time is it Tay?”

“4:00pm,” he sighed.

“The day has gone by so fast,” I sighed. He just held me tight and wouldn’t let go. I could tell he didn’t want to, I didn’t want him to either.

“Can we do this forever?”

“Sure Bre,” he smiled.

We both just laughed. He let go and I wondered why. He walked to the window and looked out. I saw why. When I went to Vermont I could never get enough of it’s snow, neither could he. But living on Stratton was a little different.

“Look at all the people skiing! They are little specks, and then they get, bigger, and bigger and bigger!” he laughed. I smiled, “Isn’t it great just watching. Then when you get out there it’s even more laughs!” He put his arm around my waist. I instantly laid my head on his shoulder as we continued to gaze out the window.

* * *
Elizabeth and Ike were in their room while Ike was still un-packing. She ran over to him and began to tickle his stomach.

“Stop that tickles!” he laughed.

“Duh! That’s what it is suppose to do!” she laughed back.

“Oh yeah?!”

“Yeah!” she protested.

He grabbed her and playfully threw her down on all his unpacked clothes. He began tickling her. He then lifted her shirt, and to his surprise she let him take it off. They kept tickling each others until tears formed. Then Ike became more compassionate. He began to breath heavily on her neck and kiss from her mouth down to her stomach.

“Lizzy, is this all right?” he asked sitting up.

“Yes. But nothing else. I don’t even know why I am letting you do this, but I love you, and it feels right.”

“I love you too,” he smiled.

“Oh just shut up and kiss me,” she laughed pulling him close to her. They both continued kissing each other, until there was a knock at the door.

“Who’s there?” Ike asked sitting up.

“It’s Sharon,” she answered happily.

“Oh, hold on, one sec. I...I...I just have to...um...pick up my clothes...yeah that’s it, pick up my clothes,” he said stuttering, “My rooms kinda a mess.”

All the while Elizabeth was searching for her shirt, which got mixed in with Ike’s thousands of un-packed shirts, which were now everywhere do to their foolishness.

“Ike, I can’t find my shirt!” Elizabeth yelled in a whisper through her clenched teeth.

“Ike, I really don’t mind if your rooms a mess,” Sharon sighed.

“Well I do Sharon...plus...Elizabeth...is...is...”

“Sleeping,” Elizabeth whispered.

“Is sleeping!” Ike yelled. “Sleeping? What?” Ike asked in a whisper giving Elizabeth an odd look.

“Just don’t worry,” she whispered back.

“Oh OK, well I need to talk to you so come downstairs when you are done, and wake Elizabeth up. Hurry please!” she yelled.

“Sure Sharon,” he sighed. They both began to laugh when they heard her go downstairs.

“That was odd,” Sharon whispered to herself.

“Ike come on lets clean this up...I need to find my shirt,” she moaned.

“OK, OK, hold on. It’s not like you should be upset or anything. I’m the only one in here.”

“No, but when we go downstairs...” she began.

“A-HA! Found it!” he said smiling.

“Give me, thank you SO much!” she sighed in relief.

“Not until I get a kiss,” he smiled slyly. She kissed him deeply and pried the shirt from his grasp. She quickly threw on her shirt and they both headed downstairs.

* * *
Everyone was sitting in the living room when Ike and Elizabeth came running down the stairs.

“Finally,” Zac moaned. I think my mom suspected when they were doing, but she didn’t say anything.

“Sorry Lizzy wouldn’t wake up!” Ike laughed.

“That’s all right my dad smiled. Now would you guys just like to order some pizza?” my dad asked.

“Yes,” we all smiled. The pizza came after about twenty minutes. My parents paid the man and then go their coats.

“Mom, Dad, where are you going?” I asked.

“Oh honey, sorry. We figured we would go out for a little. We will be back late, don't wait up.”

“Bye,” I kissed them both and they left out the door.

* * *
After we finished eating I asked Lynn to come up to my room.

“What?” she asked as she closed the door behind her and sat down near me.

“Lynn I am glad you don’t think your pregnant but instincts aren’t always true in this situation. I mean it hasn’t been that long. You can’t just say, ‘Oh I am not pregnant’. Those tests aren’t always right...but they aren’t always WRONG either. You have to have an adult take you t the gynecologist.”

“How would you know?! You aren’t “maybe” pregnant, OK!! So just shut up! I’m not pregnant so end it!”

“Lynn don’t be like this please! I’m not mad at you! I’m just scared that’s all!!”

Lynn walked to the door.

“WELL THEN STOP BEING TO SYMPATHETIC! You don’t have a boyfriend that said quote, ‘You know we have to wait, I don’t want a kid. I don’t know what I would do if you were pregnant’!! OK BRE!! YOU JUST DON’T KNOW!! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT ONCE SO EVER TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO!! YOU JUST DON’T!”

She ran out of the room crying. I slammed the door behind her, locked it, and turned on my music as loud as possible so no one could hear me cry. Lynn went into her room and also proceeded to slam her door. Tay ran up to our room and Zac went to his, but Ike grabbed him.

“No Zac, let me.” Ike walked quietly into Lynn’s room. He knew what we were fighting about and he agreed with me. He knew Lynn should go to a doctor.

* * *
“Bre open the damn door!” Tay yelled. Taylor some how got the door open and ran to me after closing the door again. He sat down near me and grabbed me tight. I quickly rejected him by throwing him off me.

“Get the hell away from me!” I yelled.

“Bre, don’t get mad at me. Please. I did nothing. I am here for you. You fell and I jumped in after you,” he sighed.

“Go away! I want to drown!” I yelled.

“No you don’t,” he said softly, “I don’t want you to.”

“Just GO AWAY!!!” I yelled again.

“All right, but when you hold it in and not tell me, you will explode.”

He began to walk towards the door. I turned and looked at him. That’s what I had always said. I never thought it would change a persons mind, I didn’t think it meant much. But now that I had it said to me, I realized it did.

“Wait. Tay, I wanna talk.”

“OK,” he said softly as he sat next to me once again, and I let him.

“Now what happened,” he asked.

“Lynn and I are in a fight,” I began.

“Well, I kinda figured that. But why?” he asked.

“Because. Do you really believe all that crap she said? Do you REALLY believe she is not pregnant? She can’t know if she’s not by instincts. The only reason Zac fell for that was because he forced himself, shall we say. He told Lynn afterwards that he didn’t want a kid and that he was SO happy she wasn’t pregnant. I mean, think of all the pressure that must of put on her! I mean just think about that! Now she is all upset because she doesn’t know if she is or not. And she won’t go to the freakin’ doctor!”

“Bre, it’s all right, we will get Lynn to a doctor. She has to come to her senses. Now why are you upset? Besides you and Lynn being in a fight?”

“Because! I am scared! OK! HAPPY! I SAID IT! I am scared to death! Lynn is my best friend. If anything ever happened to her, I don’t know what I would do. She’s always been there. I can’t stand seeing her like this, it’s horrible! You know, I want to help her, but she just won’t let me. I can’t stand it!! This has never happened before!”

“It’s OK. We will work this out. I promise. She is just as scared and confused as you are,” he said giving me a hug.

* * *
“Ike? What do you want?”

“I want to know what’s the matter,” he said softly.

“Bre! She thinks I am full of crap believing in instincts when I am pregnant. But I am not! I AM NOT PREGNANT!! OK, I don’t need a doctor to tell me what I already know.”

“Lynn...yes you do. Bre is just trying to help.”

“Yeah, but it would kill Zac if I was pregnant!”

“What?” he asked confused.

“After I said that I wasn’t pregnant he said he was SO happy I wasn’t pregnant and that he didn’t want a kid.”

“Oh God,” Ike moaned softly. “Listen, I am sure if you were, he would be there for you. Just promise me you’ll go make up with Bre. I can’t stand seeing either of you. She didn’t do anything Lynn. She is just scared, and so are you. Please, I know you need her.”

“I know.”

* * *
“Zac did you believe Lynn when she said she wasn’t pregnant?” Elizabeth asked Zac.

She had taken Zac down into the living room so she could talk with him.

“Yeah, of course, why?” he asked blankly.

“Well...it’s not true. Zac she doesn’t know if she is or not. You have to promise me though, that you will be there for her through this whole thing. This is so hard for her, and you.”

“I promise I will,” Zac sighed.

But inside Zac knew what he had already said to Lynn and he felt very bad. He was scared and upset. Right now nothing could make him happy.

* * *
“Bre it’s Lynn can I come in?”

“Yeah, sure,” I said standing up to greet her.

“I’m sorry Bre. I acted so stupid. You’re right. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I wanted Zac to have fun and the only way I knew he would is if I said that. But I take it all back, because I don’t know if it’s true or not. When we get back Wednesday, I’m telling my mom, and I’m going to the gynecologist.”

I grabbed her tight.

“And I’ll come and I’ll be there. I’ll be there for you always. And I’m sorry for saying that you can’t trust instincts. I don’t make decisions for you and I never will unless you want me to.”

“Bre?”

“Yeah?”

“What do I do, if I AM pregnant?”

“Oh God. Lynn. I don't even want to think about that. I mean, you, well, you would have to get an abortion. You are too young Lynn, the doctor would make you.”

“No! I don’t want that!” Lynn began crying.

“I knew this conversation would come about. But they’d make you,” I held her tight.

“NO!! NO!! NO!! I don’t want to kill a child!! NO!! NO!!” She cried over and over.

“It’s all right, I’ll be there, and so will everyone else. I don’t want to sound offensive, but, that’s what you get for messing with sex.”

“I know,” she sniffled, “Best friends?”

“Best friends, forever,” I smiled.

* * *
Everyone was now sitting in the living room, quietly.

“Zac?” Lynn asked.

“Yeah Lynn?” he replied turning to her.

“I don’t know if I am pregnant or not.”

“I know, and I am SO sorry I said that before. I will be there no matter what. I promise,” he cried.

“Promise?” she asked again.

“I promise Lynn,” he said softly taking her into his arms.

“Then everyone. Can we just wait until we get back home to bring this up? I wanna have fun,” Lynn smiled. It was agreed we would, and since it was late and we all had a VERY long day, it was also decided that we would go to bed.

* * *
In Zac and Lynn’s room everyone heard a faint ‘I love you’. We all smiled. Before Lynn and I settled in we hugged. We were best friends. Of course Elizabeth joined us. But Lynn and I had something a lot more special. We had endless nights on the phone. We had an everlasting friendship that was more special then the world. More special then life itself, and I cherished that.
