CHAPTER Eight- Concert Practices Can Go Bad, Real Bad

We entered the field where their performance would be held. We had gone with Diana since the boys had left very early.

“To the right,” the stage director yelled, “No move the microphone over to the left!”

“Testing one 1,2,3,” Tay began, “Mmmbop ba duba dop ba do bop ba duba dop ba do.”

“That sounded great Tay,” I yelled sitting in the first row of hundreds of chairs. I can’t believe I am helping Tay set up,I thought to myself. Lynn had already gone on stage and was fooling around with Zac’s drum-set.

“Bre? Earth to Bre?!” Tay yelled waving his hand in front of my face.

“Oh sorry, I was just daydreaming,” I stuttered.

“About what?” I asked giving my a sexy grin.

I pushed his chest and he pushed back into the chair, “Nothing you have to know,” I laughed.

“Sing for me Bre,” Tay said bluntly.

“Never. If you wanted me to sing you wouldn’t have been so blunt, but then again you are known for your bluntness. But I still won’t because you will laugh at me. I’m no good.”

“Please?” he begged giving me the innocent puppy face.

“Fine but no laughing,” I said sternly.

I just couldn't say no to the puppy dog face. Plus something inside me kept telling me he wouldn't say anything, even though I did suck.

“No laughing,” he said pretending to zipper his lips.

I sang the chorus to 'Mmmbop' and then stopped to look at his face. He wasn’t laughing like I thought he would be.

“Wow, you aren’t bad at all,” he said stunned.

“Thanks, Lynn and I had always wanted to start a band.”

“We can help...if u want,” he suggested.

“No, Lynn and I are perfectly fine, WITHOUT the world knowing are every move,” I laughed.

“Well, if you ever were to start a band you would have to know how to play the keyboard like your man, right?”

“Now your my man? I like it!” I smiled while laughing, "Yeah, I think I would have to know. But I don’t.”

He grabbed my, “ Come onto the stage for a sec.”

“OK, I really don’t have a choice though, your braking my arm off.” I said sarcastically.

“Sorry,” he said turning a little red.

He took my hands and placed them on t he keyboard and wrapped his arms around me and then put his hands on top of mine. He pushed my fingers gently on the right keys and I moved my hands with his. After a few chords I looked up at his face. He bent down and kissed me gently. I smiled and continued watching him move my hands. He helped me play half of “Weird” and then I backed away. He and I both knew he had to get back to work. As they were in the middle of practicing “Look At You” a very large group of girls started running toward the stage where Hanson was. They knocked down Lynn and I and the rest of the group followed by stepping on our knocked down bodies. We weren’t crying but Tay and Zac could see past the anger and see the hurt in our eyes.

“Get them out of here!!” the stage director and Walker yelled furiously.

“Taylor!!! I love you!!” screamed a girl trying to jump on the stage.

“Please. We don’t want to sound rude or mean, but we really have to practice. If you are coming to the show tonight you can see us then. But as you can see you have really hurt our friends and we can’t have the screaming while we are trying to get a song down pat. We have to ask you to leave,” declared Ike.

The girls were taken out by four very large security grads. Once the girls were clear out of sight Taylor and Zac hopped off the stage and helped us up and into chairs.

“We are so sorry, what hurts?” Tay asked.

“My arm just hurts,” Lynn cried. “We’ll go get some ice,” Zac said with hurt in his eyes.

“OK, thanks guys,” I said weakly.

Once they left I looked at Lynn and she looked at me with horror.

“God, people can be so rude,” she said snootily.

“Yeah, well wouldn’t we have done the same?” I added. “Well yeah, but I wouldn’t have tried to break a girls arm for Christ sakes,” she yelled.

“We are just lucky to have Tay and Zac, Lynn,” I said happily.

“I know. They are so sweet to us. I thank God every day that he has given me the chance to meet them and fell in love with them.”

“So do I,” I said in a whisper.

“When do you think they will tell their fans about us?” she asked.

“I don’t know, soon I hope, “I answered.

The boys came back with ice and it was already 4:00pm. The concert started at seven. Girls had been waiting and screaming outside since it turned daylight. The next few hours would be hectic. The gates would be opened, and all chaos would begin.

“Where’s the love? It’s not enough. It makes the world go ‘round and ‘round and...” they sang on-stage as hundreds of girls sang along in the crowd.

“Wow...Lynn don't they sound great? I mean and their looks! Uhh..to die for!” I yelled as we sat backstage watching them play intently.

“We don’t have to die for that Bre. We have that sweat, we have that mouth, we have that hair, we have those angels, no dying is needed.”

“I know,” I sighed, “I think 'I Will Come To You' sounded the best.”

“Yeah, so did 'Mmmbop',” she added.

The show ended after three long hours of screaming fans and blinding flashes. In the car the boys could barely talk their voices were so hoarse.

“You ROCKED!!!” I yelled.

“You RULED!!!!” Lynn screamed.

“Thanks!” they all said in groggy voices.

“Upstairs bedtime,” Diana yawned.

None of us complained about that accusation since we had all had a long long day, especially Tay, Zac and Ike. But we all knew it was worth it and it all paid off.
