“Kayla I don’t want you! Can’t you realize this, I want you out of here, your a disgrace to your father and I! You can go live with your cousin Kevin, he’s in that big boy band phenomena anyway...you seem to follow the flow anyway!” her mother yelled as she threw her daughters belongings into bags.
Kayla protested and started to take her things from her mother’s hands and put them back in their places. The battle continued in screams as the two fought.
“MOM YOU CAN’T DO THIS! You know how Brian and I are! I mean Kevy and I are close, but not like Brian and I! How am I suppose to explain this to him, he will think I am a disgrace, they all will! They all saw me grow up, and I don’t want them to have to listen to me now, not now! Please mom, this wasn’t my fault, don’t you understand?!”
“No! Kayla Charity Williams, it was PLENTY your fault! I am getting a hold of Kevin right now and telling him that you are staying with them. I’m not going to tell them the reason, but you will and you will have to in the end. So you better get your act together and get it together fast. The next thing I am doing is booking you a plane ticket to leave my house TOMORROW!”
Kayla fell to her bed crying, crying harder then she ever had as she heard her mother storm out of her room. She looked at the pictures of her friends and her now ex-boyfriend, Aubrey. He was such a nice guy until everything happened, and he left her...just as quickly as her parents did. She was 17 and already she was being disowned. Her friends looked at her differently. Growing up in the higher class of town really never paid out in the end like she thought it would. She was always a good girl, and she made one mistake in life...ONE, and it led her to all this havoc. There was no doubt that she missed her cousin Brian, and Kevin, but Brian was always a big brother to her. Now, she couldn’t NOT want to talk with them more, let alone see them.
“Hello?” Kayla’s mother Joan talked into the phone.
“Oh hey Joan, long time no talk! How’s everything back in Lexington?” Kevin asked.
“All right, but not quite perfect. Listen I know you guys are busy, very busy, with your tour winding down and I know you guys will be going on your winter break...but Richard and I have a favor to ask of you,” Joan lied along.
“Sure Joan, we aren’t that busy where I can’t help out my own Aunt!”
“Well, it’s Kayla. Richard and I have wanted some time to our selves for a little, and I think that it would be very nice for Kayla to spend some time with you, especially Brian because she looks up to him so much. I know that she wants to go and so I thought it would be the best Christmas present I can give her, even though it's a few days late,” Joan smiled with an evil grin.
“Joan that sounds great. How long would Kayla be staying? As you know we can’t come home for the holidays but my girlfriend Kirsten was coming to stay in Florida with me and then Leigh-Anne was going to be with Bri. Of course the other guys have their girls coming to, we are having a little party, and it would be great if Kayla was around.”
“Well we figured Kayla could stay for a long time, we wanted her to just learn to live on her own. I mean I don’t want to sound like we are just getting rid of her, we’re not at all sweetie, but maybe like a year?”
Kevin almost choked on his own spit, “A YEAR? Joan don’t you think Kayla will get home sick, I am sure there is only so much of us she can take,” he laughed lightly.
“Well Kevin if you don’t want her for that long then...”
“No, no, no...not at all. That’s fine. So when will she be coming?” he asked.
“Tomorrow if I can book it,” Joan smiled slyly.
“OK, Joan, well we are in Florida and that’s where we will be up until after New Years, so just have her fly into the airport and then one of us will get her when she lands, you can call me back with all that info later on tonight. OK?”
“Sounds perfect darling...thank you very much for this, I owe you,” she laughed.
“Don’t worry about it, hey and Joan? What about her boyfriend Aubrey? I mean they have been dating for three years, would he like to come down for a little?”
“Oh I really doubt it, I don’t think Kayla needs any more boys in her life besides you all for a while. She’s a handful, trust me she’ll tell you about it when she comes. Keep your eye on her Kevin,” Joan spat, “Good-bye Kevin.”
She hung up the phone before he could finish saying bye. Worse he was more confused then ever. He hung up the phone and walked back into the living room and sat next to Kirsten.
“Well some good news guys, Kayla’s coming to visit us...for a YEAR!” he said still in disbelief.
Brian looked at him like he was just hit by a car, “Woah, run this past my cuz...what’s going on?”
“Kayla I made all the plane arrangements, tomorrow at 3 am you are leaving and you will stay out of my life for good! Now finish packing young lady and then go to bed. I will wake you in the morning!” Joan yelled from downstairs.
“WHAT ABOUT DAD? Doesn’t he have any say?!”
“Your father is on business, he agreed with me on this! To know that our perfect daughter dropped this bomb on us before the holidays is horrific and he will have no part in it, nor will I. Let Kevin and the others straighten you out, because I don’t know what to do with you anymore!”
She heard the front door slam and the car pull out of the driveway. Many thoughts crossed her mind, to run away, to just call someone and go somewhere else, or even to cancel the plane tickets. Unfortunately, a part of her just made her keep packing and get into bed. Her life was now going to hell in a hand basket.
