This I Promise You~ Part 10

Kayla and Leigh-Anne had gotten ready and made it back to the house around 7:30 pm, a little later then expected. Kayla quickly ran to her room and dumped her dirty clothes in her hamper and then took one last look to make sure she was happy. Leigh-Anne did really well with her makeup. She heard a soft knock at her door and opened it slightly.

“Hi,” Nick smiled.

“Hi, um, I’m going downstairs because Scott should be here any minute,” Kayla grinned, butterflies filled her stomach.

“Oh, OK, well I’ll walk down with you,” he offered.

“OK,” she said.

They both walked out of her room silently.

“You look amazing tonight, the outfit is hot, especially on you,” he blurted.

She blushed lightly, “No so bad yourself Carter,” she grinned.

All the guys had on black dress pants with loose shirts, nothing too fancy. As they got downstairs he walked off to go hang out with guys, everyone was there but Scott, which meant Nick never brought a date. After about ten minutes Scott arrived exactly at 8:00 pm. She opened the door and smiled as she saw him standing there in a pair of dark jeans with a gray wife beater on under a long sleeved black dress shirt that was un-buttoned to show his six pack. She gave him a hug and kissed him lightly on the cheek after saying hello. She introduced him to everyone and the party was underway, even Nick was being kind, everything was so far perfect.

The night went by a lot faster then anyone had thought it would they had talked for a long time, having MTV on in the background. It was around 11:00pm when MTV finally introduced the ‘Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely’ video. Everyone had taken a seat around the TV to see the final product. Tears welled up in Kayla’s eyes as she saw the video un-fold. Seeing the somber video just brought tears to her eyes, and she noticed that she wasn’t the only one, she saw Leigh-Anne shed a few as well. When it was over she stood up and gave all five of them hugs and kisses.

“You guys that was VERY good, a little emotional, but great,” she smiled, “Congratulations.”

They all said their thank you’s and the party proceeded on. Her and Scott danced a few times getting everyone else into the mood and soon the room was full of food, and plenty of things to crack open to let confetti rain when the time came. They all wore party hats and were laughing and just having a good time as 12:00 pm neared. Everyone that is but Nick.

* * *

He was trying to hide the fact that he was depressed, nothing could bring him out of his state. Seeing Kayla with Scott, holding hands and having so much fun, it hurt him to no extent. He wanted to give her that happiness, and he knew he could, but she just wouldn’t let him, which hurt him more then anything else.

* * *

Suddenly they all grabbed noise makes and confetti poppers as they stood by the TV. The guys made some funny noises and everyone laughed a little. Suddenly they al began to count down.

“5, 4, 3, 2...” everyone began to count down.

Nick walked across the room as he chanted, knowing it was a long shot, but thinking maybe he could get that midnight kiss.

“1!” everyone shouted the room suddenly was brought to life with noise and confetti filled the air.

“Happy New Year and New Millennium!” Brian and AJ shouted.

Kayla smiled as she took Scott into her arms and they kissed. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed a little longer making it last.

“Happy New Year,” she whispered to him, their foreheads touching.

“Happy New Millennium baby, I’m glad I was your last kiss of the century,” he smiled.

Suddenly her heart sank, her last kiss of the century. She just thought for a minute, realizing that he wasn’t the one. It took a kiss and a last kiss to prove to her that he was not the one, nor was Aubrey, she knew who she loved. They pulled away at the same time all the others did. Kayla turned around and saw Nick sitting alone and her stomach churned. He had hurt and loneliness in his eyes but he was determined to hide it so well. Scott wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her in for another kiss and Kayla let him kiss her as she stood in front of Nick. She pushed away before he could really kiss her, and he gave her a confused look. Everyone had sat back down , except Nick had gone to the opposite side of the room, knowing that he didn’t exactly fit in. It was 12:30 am when Kayla couldn’t take it anymore. All the guys and their girlfriends were off having their ‘own’ parties in the other living room while Nick was in the kitchen cleaning up a little bit. She had guessed they left her alone actually thinking she wanted to be with Scott. He kept placing his arm around her and she kept moving away, finally she stood up.

“OK, I’m sorry Scott but you have to leave now,” Kayla said a little annoyed.

* * *

Nick noticed her say that and listened in a little closer. Leaning up against the kitchen wall to make sure Scott wasn’t doing anything that he shouldn’t be.

* * *

“What? Why? Kayla we were just starting to have fun,” he smiled.

“No, YOU were just starting to have fun. I just realized you don’t know anything about me, nor do I you. Neither of us really care about this date and you know it. We just think that we’re cute, it’s shallow Scott,” she admitted.

“Fine, I’ll go, but can I call you?” he asked with puppy dog eyes.

“No, I don’t want to see you anymore. I’m a fan, I love your music, I don’t love you,” she said getting a little mad.

“Fine, whatever,” he said opening the door and leaving before she could say anything else.

Kayla walked to the couch and fell giving out a deep sigh. Realization hit her, and she didn’t care what was about to happen. She knew what she was about to do, and she knew that she was about to change her life forever, and nothing would ever be the same...but she was going to take that risk. The sadness that she had been feeling was not worth it anymore. She walked into the kitchen and saw Nick cleaning off the table.

“Careful, if you clean it anymore there’s gonna be a hole,” she laughed.

He laughed back, feeling a little more happier, knowing she dumped Scott.

* * *

Brian silenced everyone in the room, they all had a perfect view in the kitchen.

“Guys wait, would it be wrong if we see what’s about to happen since Scott’s gone?” Brian asked.

They all smiled, “Nah!”

They all watched contentedly at the scene unfolding.

* * *

Nick laughed some more at her joke and then looked deeply into her eyes with love, making her feel like she was worth something. He walked over to the other side of the kitchen and just stood there looking at her, neither knew what to say. Most of all he didn’t know what was about to happen. Kayla looked down at the floor and cleared her throat, she started humming a familiar tune.

“Kayla?” he asked.

She put her finger up to her mouth and kept humming. He just looked her straight in the eyes. She began singing the first verse as he had last night in her place. She walked slowly to him as she began to sing the chorus,

“And I will take you in my arms, and hold you right where you belong, till’ the day my life is through, this I promise you, this I promise you,” she sang.

She was now right in front of him and he just stood there, not sure what to do, not sure what she was doing.

“Kay...” he said softly.

“You were right, the one that I should call was standing there all along,” she said taking his hands in hers.

“Kay what are you doing?” he asked smiling a little.

“Something I should’ve done a long time ago,” she smiled, “I’m following my heart.”

She put her hands on his face and he lowered it down a little. She placed her lips on his and kissed him lightly. When they pulled away they both smiled.

“Nick, I love you,” she smiled, “I love you so much, more then I have loved anyone.”

“Oh God Kayla, I love you too!” he said happily as he pulled her into his arms.

They kissed again but with more passion then ever before. He lifted her up and sat her on the edge of the kitchen table. He stood there and kissed her hundreds of times all over her face. She ran her hands through his hair and then wrapped her hands around his neck as he placed his hands on her hips and ran them up and down her thighs as he kissed her more deeply on the mouth. She felt his tongue brush against her teeth and let it enter to intertwine with hers. They pulled away again and their foreheads rested against each others. They turned when they heard clapping coming from the doorway.

“FINALLY! God it took you long enough!” Brian laughed, “I didn’t think that I would see you make out on our kitchen table the first time you finally admit it, but hey, whatever floats your boat!” Leigh-Anne patted Kayla on the shoulder, “I told you,” she whispered in her ear.

She just looked her in the eyes and grinned.

* * *

After a congratulations was excepted from everyone else they headed upstairs...holding hands. When they got to Kayla’s room she sat down on the bed with him and they kissed once more, again more passionately then the last.

“Happy New Year Nick,” Kayla smiled lovingly.

“Happy New Year Kayla, I love you,” he grinned.

“I love you too.”

“So now it’s official, I don’t have to chase after you anymore? Your mine now, and I can take care of you and the baby, and treat you like my own?” he asked in a loving tone.

“I’m all yours Nick,” she said kissing him once again, “And that proves it.”

* * *

Once they were both changed they got into Kayla’s bed...together. He wrapped his arms around her and for once knew that she wasn’t ever going to leave them.

“Do you know you fit perfectly into my arms?” he smiled as the moonlight spilled over them.

“I know, we were meant to be,” she whispered.

They cuddled closer and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of each other and their lives ahead of them...together.
