This I Promise You~ Part 13

Leigh and Kayla had left for her appointment early that morning around 10:00am. She was able to sneak out without Nick seeing her and she was grateful, not really wanting to converse at the moment with him. They had sat in the waiting room for a while laughing and making fun of the whole thing, trying to ease the tension. Finally they were called in and Kayla had to change into a paper gown and sat down in a chair with places for her legs to go onto.

“God, now that looks scary!” Leigh laughed while they waited for the doctor.

Kayla just laughed back, “Thanks.”

“So are you really nervous?” Leigh asked.

“Yeah, a little.”

“Well don’t be, I’m telling you this is going to be a cinch,” she smiled.

“I know, but I can’t help the nerves,” Kayla smirked. Leigh-Anne nodded, “So, Kayla do you want me to stay in here the whole time? I mean the doctor has to do a quick examination...and well, you know that’s, well, she’s going to be touching a view ‘personal’ places,” she laughed a little.

“Well your sitting next to me, it’s not like your going to see, but I really don’t care. I mean your going to be coming with me a lot, your probably going to see a lot and I really could care less. I mean your like my mom, I’m cool with it. And I really don’t care if you see my boobs,” Kayla laughed.

Suddenly the room filled with laughter and then it died down.

“So, when you gotta put your legs on those stirrup things, man that looks uncomfortable,” she said lifting her eyebrows.

“Why don’t you try it,” Kayla said smartly.

Leigh stuck her tongue out her, “No thanks.”

Suddenly the door opened and they saw a older woman walk in with a clip board and white doctors coat on.

“Hi, I’m Dr. Baker and I am going to be your doctor and the woman to deliver your baby,” she smiled as she shook Kayla’s hand and Leigh-Anne’s.

“Your Kayla I assume,” the doctor verified.

“Yes,” Kayla smiled.

“OK, and are you her mother?” she asked Leigh-Anne.

They both giggled a little.

“Stand in Mom, but no, I’m not,” she laughed, “I’m actually her cousins girlfriend. Long story, mom couldn’t make it.”

“OK, that’s fine. So Kayla we’re just going to do a quick examination, making sure everything’s running right and then we will sit and have a nice talk about what to expect.”

“All right,” she said wearily.

Once the examination was over the doctor left for a minute so Kayla could put back on her clothes and then her and Leigh-Anne could go into her office.

“She seems really nice,” Leigh smiled as Kayla got dressed.

“Yeah...mom!” Kayla laughed

“Hey shut up, I’m not that old!” she grinned, “Hey I’m excited about this talk, then I will be able to know what to expect when I have a kid with Brian...if I ever do.”

Kayla smiled as she grabbed Leigh’s hand for comfort, “Trust me, you will, just trust me, you definitely will. I am actually calmed down for the first time. She seemed to really make me feel all right, made me realize that this was going to be OK.”

“Yup, now come on,” Leigh smiled.

They had been sitting in Dr. Baker’s office for a few minutes until she came in and sat down behind her desk.

“Well, let me begin with saying that everything looks fine. The baby looks to be developing perfectly, and your body seems to be adjusting fine as well,” she smiled.

“Good,” Kayla sighed in relief, “Now as far as complications in birth, what are the chances?”

“Slim, but there is always a chance. Because you are young there is more of a chance, but I wouldn’t worry. Keep it in mind, but don’t worry. If you worry you will only be dangering yourself and the baby. Now the due date is in June sometime. You are about three months pregnant correct?” she asked.

“Yes the day of conception was October 19th,” Kayla confirmed.

“OK, then the baby should arrive around June 25th,” she smiled, “Probably earlier, just because normally younger pregnancies come earlier. Now if anything should happen we will take the baby out early. Now let me explain to you and Leigh-Anne how this works,” she said waiting for them to nod.

Once they did she took it as her time to continue.

“OK, every month up until June we are going to schedule an appointment together. Sometimes, if I feel it’s all right we can skip a month, or if we need to twice a month. Pregnancy is very fickle, considering this is a live human we are talking about. You will begin to obviously notice you gain weight. Right now you can’t tell, once you get into the fifth month you will though. Now, you will make more frequent trips to the bathroom, because the uterus is pushing down on the bladder. Also, you may have spot bleeding. It may look like your period, but it’s not, just use a pad like you normally would. Fatigue will come into play as you progress, remember you are now caring for two lives, yours and the baby’s. Obviously your appetite will also enlarge. Finally, you may have sexual intercourse while you are pregnant. Many woman ask, and it is totally all right and safe, just try not to when you are in your 6th month or on. It may be a little uncomfortable.”

Kayla shook her head taking in all the information, “OK, thank you.”

“Do you have any more questions?” she asked.

“Well, my boyfriend, his job...well, he...” Kayla began then looked at Leigh-Anne, not sure if she could tell the doctor. Leigh-Anne nodded her head, saying it was all right.

“Everything is confidential, correct? You cannot say ANYTHING?” Kayla made sure.

“Of course,” the doctor said strongly.

“OK, well my boyfriend is a Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter. This isn’t his child, the real father left me. In any case I am Brian Littrell’s cousin. My parents pretty much left me, that’s what Leigh-Anne is with me, but I know that their job has them go around the US, and I plan on going. Is that all right?” she asked.

“Well...yes, I guess so. I mean I don’t think that flying is a very good idea, but I mean because they are who they are, you can easily get any care needed. I do suggest though that you call me once a month sometime and I will tell you where to go for a check up. Everything will be brought back to be from them so I can still deliver for you, all right?” she smiled.

“Deal, thank you so much Dr. Baker,” Kayla smiled.

“No problem. Now here’s my number, call next month and make an appointment if you are here, if not ask to speak to me, got it?” she asked.

“Got it,” Kayla said standing up with Leigh-Anne.

On the ride home all Kayla could do was think about how excited she was to have a baby, and how amazing it felt to know that she was actually carrying a living being. But although she knew the doctor told her not to worry she couldn’t help but worry about Nick. She didn’t know what to say to. She had been home for about an hour and it was already late in the afternoon. Leigh-Anne had told Brian everything about her visit and then they left to their house.

* * *

Nick had tried to talk to her but she just told him she wanted to be left alone for minute. Soon a minute turned into about an hour and Nick began to get worried. He walked to her door and knocked on it softly, then opened it.

“Nick please, just go away, OK? I don’t want to see you right now,” she sighed laying on her bed.

“No Kayla, what did I do? Why won’t you talk to me, huh? God, don’t keep pushing me away, please, I love you. I wan’t to know how the visit went,” he urged.

“I just need to think Nick, please...” she begged.

“About what, us?”

“Yes...” she said softly looking down. Anger and sadness rose in him, “Kayla why? I thought that we loved each other, I thought everything was perfect?”

“It was...it is, that’s what I need to think about, now just go!” she said beginning to yell.

She stood up and walked closer to him, trying to push him out.

“Whatever Kayla, you know what? Fine, I don’t care. I love you, and when you are ready to face the fact then come get me, all right? I’m going to let you keep playing with my freaking mind,” he argued.

“Nick don’t be mad at me,” she pleaded.

“Don’t be mad? I’m not mad Kayla, I’m upset, disappointed. I love you, and all I want is for you to love me,” he said with tears in his eyes, “Just answer me this, is the baby all right, are you all right?”

“Everything is perfect,” she half smiled, “I want us to be perfect too, that’s why I want to think.”

Nick just shook his head, “We are perfect Kayla, I just wish you would see that,” he said as he walked out, not knowing when they would talk again.
