This I Promise You~ Part 20

As the next week went by Nick tried his hardest to keep a decent exposure. The fact of not being able to even see what his baby looked like yet killed him and his heart hurt with distress at the loss of Kayla. The press took no time to quickly learn about the tragedy and tried their damnedest to get as much information as possible. Nick refused to talk about it, he just couldn’t. He didn’t want to face the public, he didn’t want to face anyone. He spent his week planning a funeral and staying locked in his house alone. People tried to call and see him but he refused to see anyone. He secluded himself, he needed to. The day of the funeral came and he planned it the day before he was to pick up the baby from the hospital. He wanted to finally let Kayla go to where she needed to before he started the new chapter of his life. Except he wasn’t alone, somehow he felt her watching over him. The funeral was beautiful. He gave her the most elaborate one possible inviting only close family and friends. He had given the Eulogy and almost couldn’t finish it was so emotionally hard. Somehow while he was up at the podium he got a push of strength and voice told him to continue. He felt Kayla watching him telling him he was doing the right thing. When the procession to bury her body came he didn’t feel as if he could go on. Rain poured from the sky that day, but not nearly as hard as the tears streamed from his eyes. He felt as if God wanted to make this day as sorrowful as possible, and he knew the God was succeeding. He really didn’t think it was humanly possible to cry and feel so much immense pain. He had looked around and saw that her parents where there, and saw a few tears in their eyes. They hadn’t been as cold hearted as they seemed. He knew that they deserved to feel pain, they deserved to feel as they did. Tossing Kayla away like that was wrong, and he couldn’t understand how anyone would want to. As the casket lowered into the muddy dirt below he walked over and through a final white rose over the gleaming wooden box. Her body had looked so alive when he saw her earlier that day, she didn’t seem dead. She seemed so peaceful. Everyone walked away silently and mournful as they left Nick on the hill. He had her buried under a large Dogwood tree. Nick knew that when the flowers blossomed they would reflect the beauty that she held within her. He fell to his knees in the rain, letting it beat hard onto his back. His black suit was covered in mud and his hair clung to his face. Although it was Florida it felt like a bitter cold winter day, probably only because of the coldness he felt in his heart. His body flung over her headstone, sobbing his tears onto the cold black granite. Finally after he released his final tear he stood up stepping back to admire his fallen angel one more time. He wiped his face and read the tombstone one more time before turning to face the knew life ahead of him:
