This I Promise You~ Part 6

The next day went by without much talk. AJ, his girlfriend Angel, Kevin, Kirsten, Howie and his girlfriend Alicia all had come back to the house. Of course they were quickly informed of the plot surrounding them. Kirsten had tried to talk to her about it, but Kayla shunned her away, she didn’t want to put her mind on it. It was the 29th and she couldn’t believe that their party, which was just going to be the guys and their girlfriends and herself was coming so soon. When Kayla thought about it, it really wasn’t a party, just an excuse for them to have some fun all together. It was around 9 at night when Brian called her downstairs. She walked down solemnly and saw everyone sitting in the living room. Kayla was in her PJ’s and actually was in a better mood. She had been up and about, just ignoring Nick. She fixed her glasses and sat down with everyone.

“What’s up?” she chimed.

“Well,” Bri began, “See you weren’t here for Christmas, but we all got you gifts, so I think it’s about time you opened them,” he smiled.

“Guys you didn’t have to, really,” Kayla sighed smiling widely.

“Oh but we did!” AJ laughed, “Brian made us!” he joked.

We all laughed and she looked at Nick, just staring at her, not laughing, just staring. You could tell that he had been depressed. She just didn’t want to hurt him more, by giving her heart and then taking it away all in the same.

AJ got up and handed me a box, “Here ya go, you can open that first, it’s from Angel and I.”

Kayla unwrapped the box and opened it slowly. Her eyes widened when she saw what it was. It was a white baby tee, that would come up a little above her belly button. On it, it said ‘Moffatts’ in rhinestones going across the chest.

“Guys, thank you SOOO much! I love this!” she smiled going over and giving each of them a hug.

“Your welcome, Merry late Christmas,” Angel said smiling.

Next Howie gave her another box.

“I take it this is from You and Alicia?” she smiled.

“Of course,” he smiled, “Open it!” he urged.

“All right, all right, chill out,” she laughed opening it faster then usual.

Inside the box was a necklace that had her name on it.

“God are these real?” Kayla asked. Her name looked to be spelt out in diamonds on a gold chain.

Alicia walked over, “Yeah,” she said placing it on her neck, “I had it made especially for you. You have such a beautiful name I thought everyone else should be able to read it too.” She gave her a hug and then walked over to Howie and gave him one also, “Thanks guys.”

“Your welcome,” they said together.

Kirsten walked over and gave Kayla her gift from herself and Kevin. She unwrapped it quickly and smiled widely when she saw it.

“How did you guys know that I wanted a Sony Pysc Discman and the blue headphones?” Kayla laughed.

“Well your mom called me and told me she was going to get it for you for Christmas. Well when you told us what happened I figured you never got it, so I ran out to find one. Did you know that Sony only made 600 of these things? It was SOO hard for me to find...but yah know I got connections,” he laughed.

“Thank you guys,” she said hugging them, “I never did get this for Christmas.”

Finally Brian stood up with Leigh-Anne and they sat down next to her.

“We figured we would save ours for close to last, considering, well you’ll see,” he smiled mischievously.

“OK...” she trailed off.

He handed her a thin small gold wrapped box. She unwrapped it quicker then all the rest and threw the lid off. Kayla let out a scream when she looked inside.

“OH MY GOD BRIAN, LEIGH-ANNE I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS!” she screamed happily.

Kayla looked once again in the box. They had gotten her front row tickets to the Moffatts Concert tomorrow night in Florida.

“I know they’re not the biggest band in the US right now but how did you get these? I wanted them SOO bad but they were sold out a while ago!” she smiled giving both him and Leigh-Anne kisses.

“Well I have connections,” he laughed, “I got two so I figured that you and I could go check these guys out. I know we haven’t spent any real quality time together so I figured tomorrow night we could go. Then afterwards we’re going to go hang with them,” he smiled again.

Kayla let out a another scream.

“Wait do I hear a fan calling?” AJ laughed.

All the guys started laughing and she just screamed again, “I’m going to get to meet Scott...like actually TOUCH him, maybe give him a little kiss!” Kayla laughed winking.

“Well yeah, if you wanna do that!” Brian laughed.

She hugged him so much he fell over. “God, thank you Leigh-Leigh, thank you Bri! I’m SOO siked now, I don’t know how I’m going to even sleep tonight!”

“I’m so siked too!” Brian yelled and let out a high scream.

The room once again filled with laughter. She then realized that Nick had never given her a gift, but she couldn’t blame him, after the way she had been treating him. Suddenly, everyone got up and left going to their rooms, saying their good nights. She soon saw that Nick and her were the only ones left.

“I didn’t forget Kayla, I did get you something,” he sighed, “You probably won’t care considering you just got Moffatts tickets though,” he mumbled.

Kayla sat down next to him, “Mr. Carter don’t say that. I will love anything you get me.”

“But yet you can’t seem to love me,” he said under his breath.

Her heart sank, “Nick please don’t ruin this night, OK? It’s been going great. I said that I needed to clear up my feelings and sort out didn’t I? I’m pregnant, do you understand? I am carrying a man’s baby that hates me right now. I have to live with this, and I have to live with jumbled up feelings for someone who lives in the same house as me.”

He just looked down at the ground, “I’m sorry Kayla.”

“It’s all right Nicky Poo’s, don’t worry about it,” she smiled at him.

“So you want that present now?” he offered.

“Sure,” she grinned.

He got up and took her hand, “Shall we then?” he asked.

“What?” Kayla asked.

“Well come on, it’s in your room,” he urged.

They ran up to her room, him in front of her. He opened her room door and covered her eyes. I let him lead me somewhere and he took his hands off her eyes.

“Look,” he whispered in her ear.

She looked onto her bed and she just smiled so wide she thought her face was going to break.

“Nick...” she whispered.

“Do you like it?” he asked.

She looked at the object. She had told him a few weeks ago that she wanted to learn how to play the guitar just like Scott. She had told him that Brian always told her she had a beautiful voice and that she should use it. But she had told Nick the only way she would is if she had a guitar to play as well. She had memorized some songs, because she had a knack for learning by hearing, but she had no guitar to practice on. And there on my bed laid the one thing she wanted most, probably more then the Moffatts tickets. It was a deep burgundy red, polished to make it shine in the light. She picked it up closer and read what Nick had wrote on the back.

Kay,

‘You are the girl of my dreams,’ you can ignore me all you want and push me away, but ‘I’ll be there for you.’ I don’t care if you don’t love me, because I love you, I’m sorry for acting like an idiot the past few days, but you will always be my one true love. I just want you to know that you will always be my fallen angel.

Love Always,

Nick Carter (Nick Poo’s)

Tears streamed down my face and she just turned to him. He was now sitting right next to me on the bed.

“I’m so, so sorry Kayla,” he said softly.

She gave him a slight kiss, “I’m sorry too. I’m sorry that I keep pushing you away but I just don’t know what I’m doing. Please understand me, please. Thank you so much Nick, this is the best gift I have gotten all night.”

“I don't care Kayla. You can push me away and hurt me all you want, I’m not going to give up, I love you too much.”

“Please don’t give up Nick, please. Because when I finally come to my senses I think that I might need you. In fact I do need you, just be there for me, that’s all I ask right now. Keep being my best friend,” she smiled.

“No prob, Bob!” he laughed.

“Sometimes you act so childish!” she laughed.

He just looked at me and stuck out his tongue. She ignored it and walked to my closet.

“I didn’t buy the others gifts, but I did get you one,” she said walking to her dresser and pulling out a small box.

“Kay you didn’t have to...” he began.

“Your my best friend, I wanted to,” she smiled, “You always talk to me about how much you wanted this. I searched for five months trying to find this thing, and then with a little help from Brian I got it. I really hope you like this Nick.”

He looked at her confused for a minute and she motioned for him to open the box. He unwrapped it and opened the lid, his jaw dropping, “This...this is...” he began.

“The very guitar pick that Kurt Cobain used to perform his last song right before he died. You were right about the whole story thing, I mean it is signed, he knew he was going to die,” she commented.

He just fiddled with it in his hands, and then looked at my guitar, “Can I?” he asked.

She nodded my head yes. Kayla watched as he took the pick and began to play cords from, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” His eyes were squinted closed, she guessed because he didn’t want her to see the tears, but they were to obvious. He strummed the guitar once more and then handed it back to her.

“Kayla I don’t know how to thank you enough, I never thought I would own this. My God, thank you,” he said hugging her and then trying to kiss her lips but she turned so he got my cheek.

“Your welcome Nick,” she smiled.

“So, what are you going to play for me?” he grinned placing the pick away in its box.

“Oh no, I couldn’t...” she trailed.

“Oh yes you can, I bought you a guitar, don’t tell me you won’t use it in front of people,” he smiled, “Now play and sing,” he instructed pretending to be serious.

She smiled back and then closed my eyes, placing my hands on the strings like she pretended to have so many times. Kayla strummed the first few cords and then started to sing...

Open up your heart to me, and say what’s on your mind, I know we’ve been through so much pain, but I still need you in my life, this time...

* * *

He watched in amazement as her voice filled the room and to strings of the guitar gently emphasize the beautiful music. Most of all he listened to the lyrics, they told the story of how he felt towards her, did she notice, or was she just singing what she knew she liked? But why would she sing this song if it meant nothing. Suddenly he started to sing along, joining with her...

And I need you tonight,

I need you right now,

I know deep within my heart,

it doesn’t matter if its wrong or right,

Cause’ I see heaven in your eyes...

* * *

She sat there as she strummed the cords once more and then looked at him, again sitting centimeters away from her face. The words meant something, she knew she sang them for a reason, Kayla just couldn’t exactly describe what she was feeling for him at the moment. Kayla saw him leaning closer, just as he did this afternoon and stood up.

“I think I’m going to go to bed now,” she said softly.

Nick stood up and walked to the door, he was rejected again, but he didn’t care. First because rejection was becoming a normal routine for him and second because he refused to give up hope.

“Good-night Kay, thank you, and I love you,” he said softly to me.

“Night Nick, and thanks again for making my dreams come true,” Kayla smiled getting under her covers and putting the guitar under her bed. She couldn’t tell him she loved him, but she think he understood.

He left her room humming the words to “I Need You Tonight” hoping she would catch his drift.
